چکیده

Understanding porous media properties and their scale dependence have been an active subject of research in the past several decades hydrology, geosciences petroleum engineering. The flow is attributed to small- large-scale heterogeneities, such as pore size distribution, connectivity, long-range correlations, fractures faults orientations, spatial temporal variations. main objective this study was investigate how permeability (k) formation factor (F) vary with sample dimension at small scales by means a combination pore-network modeling percolation theory. For purpose, were simulated twelve three-dimensional networks different levels pore-scale heterogeneities. Simulations carried out five network sizes, i.e., 1130, 2250, 3380, 4510 6770 µm. Four theoretical models developed based on theory estimate from pore-throat radius distribution. In addition, two other scale-dependent proposed distribution and/or factor. Comparing estimations numerical simulations showed that estimated reasonably. calculated relative error (RE) ranged between ?3.7 3.8% for 0.21 4.04% studied pore-networks.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Multi-Scale permeability of particulate and porous media

In this paper, a finite element (FE) based model for the viscous and incompressible fluid flow through a regular porous media composed of rigid (immobile) particles/fibers is considered, and an analytical-numerical approach is employed to calculate the associated transverse permeability. The effects of an isotropy, i.e., the particle shape or orientation, as well as porosity, i.e., the volume f...

Applications of percolation theory to porous media with distributed local conductances

Critical path analysis and percolation theory are known to predict accurately dc and low frequency ac electrical conductivity in strongly heterogeneous solids, and have some applications in statistics. Much of this work is dedicated to review the current state of these theories. Application to heterogeneous porous media has been slower, though the concept of percolation was invented in that con...

Absolute Permeability Calculation by Direct Numerical Simulation in Porous Media

Simulating fluid flow at micro level is an ongoing problem. Simplified macroscopic flow models like Darcy’s law is unable to estimate fluid dynamic properties of porous media. The digital sample reconstruction by high resolution X-ray computed tomography scanning and fluid-dynamics simulation, together with the increasing power of super-computers, allow to carry out pore-scale simulations throu...
